Prince Edward Theatre Old Compton Street London W1D 4HS
The Prince Edward Theatre opened in 1930 as a multi-purpose theatre, which housed many revue, musicals and films. It was named after the then Prince of Wales. The theatre reopened on 2nd April 1936 as The London Casino, which followed a conversion into a cabaret restaurant and became particularly famous for its opulent stage shows.
The Prince Edward Theatre was used as a club for servicemen during the time of second world war under the name of The Queensbury All Services Club.
In 1978, the Prince Edward Theatre reverted to its original name when the all time famous musical “Evita” ran here for about eight years.
Some of the other musicals at this theatre include the "Chess" and "Anything Goes", which was the Broadway revival production of Cole Porters. This followed with some more short-lived musicals such as the "Some Like It Hot", "Children of Eden" and "The Hunting of the Snark". Since late 1992 to early 1993, the theatre was extensively renovated and finally re-opened on 18th Feb 1993 with the Broadway production musical "Crazy For You".
